FINAL - Matt Alkire
|
![]() |
|
| 1 |
| QB | Oklahoma |
| Notes | Unless something drastic happens over the next 12 hours, expect Bradford's name to be called with the 1st selection of the 2010 NFL Draft. |
| 2 |
| DT | Nebraska |
| Notes | Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy and even Russell Okung have all had their names tossed around for this pick, but in the end Suh brings the particular skill set to the table that Jim Schwartz built his defenses upon in Tennessee and will continue to do in Detroit. He will be the pick. |
| 3 |
| DT | Oklahoma |
| Notes | With Suh off the board Gerald McCoy is the obvious pick for the Buccaneers who have got to bring in a one-gap pass rusher to get some push up the middle. |
| 4 |
| OT | Oklahoma |
| Notes | Everyone I see posting mock drafts have Russell Okung going in this spot, so I'll probably flub my entire mock draft like I did last year with Eugene Monroe last year, but I like Trent Williams and the way he fits into the zone-blocking scheme in Washington better than I do Okung here. I also think he's a better pass protector. |
| 5 |
| OT | Iowa |
| Notes | I believe Scott Pioli should pick Eric Berry here and won't be surprised if all of his extensive pre-draft posturing has been to deter teams from thinking he would select Berry, but at this point I'm guessing that he goes with his buddy Kirk Ferentz's offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga who is an intelligent and complete left tackle. |
| 6 |
| OT | Oklahoma State |
| Notes | Seattle is going to need to get someone on the left side to groom behind Walter Jones. |
| 7 |
| S | Tennessee |
| Notes | The Browns get the steal of the draft already at pick no. 7 overall. Berry is a special player. |
| 8 |
| OG | Idaho |
| Notes | I really have no idea with Oakland, but one person I do trust is Michael Smith of ESPN and if he says the Raiders are seriously considering Iupati then I'll take my pick out and put his in. |
| 9 |
| DT | Tennessee |
| Notes | Buffalo fans won't be happy with this pick, but I see Buddy Nix building his team from the point of attack out. He was very successful in San Diego doing the same thing and through that, grew a dominant defense over a three-year span that took the Chargers to the playoffs. Williams is a very solid nose tackle that will anchor their new 3-4 defense. |
| 10 |
| QB | Notre Dame |
| Notes | The honest answer is, I think Clausen could go anywhere from pick 8 until the 2nd round and have no idea where to put him. Seattle is actually the team I think is most likely to take him at this point. Jacksonville is also a team that does not have a "franchise" QB though and they could see Clausen as a player that they simply don't want to pass on with David Garrard getting up there. |
| 11 |
| ILB | Alabama |
| Notes | The Broncos selecting Rolando McClain is simply a pick that I've felt very strongly about for months now. |
| 12 |
| OLB | Georgia Tech |
| Notes | Miami will most likely field a lot of trades here with Earl Thomas being on the board and could certainly pick him themselves, but I don't see him as a Parcells type of player. |
| 13 |
| S | Texas |
| Notes | If Earl Thomas falls to the Niners, Joe Haden becomes a second option. Thomas can be a special player, Haden isn't. |
| 14 |
| RB | Clemson |
| Notes | Again, if Jimmy Clausen is at this spot it wouldn't surprise me if the Seahawks took him, but the night before the draft I have the feeling Pete Carroll will look for a versatile weapon for his offense like he had in Reggie Bush at USC as he won't have a chance at Jahvid Best in round two. |
| 15 |
| DT | Penn State |
| Notes | The Giants are a tough team to pick for and I'd like to plug a MIKE linebacker in here, however there isn't one on the board of value and Odrick is a very good DT from the Big Ten that actually brings something to the inside of the defensive line that the Giants don't have, a pass rush. |
| 16 |
| DE | South Florida |
| Notes | Pierre-Paul could slide with a number of character concerns, but the Titans are a team known to overlook those things for talent. |
| 17 |
| CB | Florida |
| Notes | Just covering my bases here. If both were on the board, I think the Niners could take them both and get a RT in the second round. In reality, I see the Niners getting a DB and a guy like Anthony Davis. |
| 18 |
| OLB | Texas |
| Notes | I do wonder if the Steelers will go for Maurkice Pouncey, a WR or a DB, but Sergio Kindle would give them an excellent pass rusher. The only concern is that he did have some off the field issues at Texas and Pittsburgh is not in a good place with that right now. |
| 19 |
| C | Florida |
| Notes | Pouncey comes in and upgrades the Falcons at the center position. |
| 20 |
| RB | Fresno State |
| Notes | The Texans finally select a running back to end the running back discussions that seem to come up every single year in Houston. |
| 21 |
| TE | Oklahoma |
| Notes | The Bengals need to finally add a receiving tight end to the mix. |
| 22 |
| WR | Oklahoma State |
| Notes | Dez Bryant can be a primma donna in interviews all he wants, so was Randy Moss. Billy B will work that right out of him and turn him into a very solid player for the future as Randy Moss declines. |
| 23 |
| OLB | Michigan |
| Notes | Brandon Graham is not only the best player on the board, but a pass rusher as well. |
| 24 |
| CB | Boise State |
| Notes | From what I've collected, I believe the Eagles will work hard to trade up and target either Eric Berry, Earl Thomas or Derrick Morgan. Rumors have been floating through Philadelphia that Maurkice Pouncey is the target, however I do not buy into that at all. To me, it is a smokescreen in case Pouncey were to slip to them at this pick to trade down. If the Eagles are to stay at pick 24 and make a selection I expect it to be Kyle Wilson or if he isn't on the board, Kareem Jackson from Alabama. |
| 25 |
| CB | Alabama |
| Notes | Baltimore could certainly use help at the cornerback position and Jackson is a player that could come in and start contributing immediately. |
| 26 |
| OT | Rutgers |
| Notes | I'm not sure Davis slides this far, but if he does Arizona needs to grab him off the board. |
| 27 |
| OT | Maryland |
| Notes | Campbell would be a developmental pick here for either right or left tackle. |
| 28 |
| WR | Georgia Tech |
| Notes | Malcom Floyd can be upgraded substantially and isn't getting any younger. Frankly, this pick is odd and Chargers fans will scoff at it, however I just don't know if Jahvid Best is what they're looking for in the 1st round and don't think Terrence Cody is worth the pick. |
| 29 |
| OLB | TCU |
| Notes | The Jets have outside linebackers, but they're old. Youth is needed. |
| 30 |
| CB | Rutgers |
| Notes | Lito Sheppard is a band-aid and a bad one at that. |
| 31 |
| DT | UCLA |
| Notes | Rodger Saffold or Brian Price? I'm going with production and value. |
| 32 |
| OLB | Missouri |
| Notes | Spoon comes in and fills the outside linebacker spot vacated by Scott Fujita. |
